On Magical Mystery Tour

On The Beatles' New Identity

"It was my idea to say to the guys, 'Hey, how about disguising ourselves and getting an alter ego, because we're the Beatles and we're fed up?  Every time you write a song, John, you gotta sing it like John would.  Every time I approach a ballad, it's gotta be like Paul would.'  And it freed us.  It was a very liberating thing to do."

On Discontinuing The Beatles Live Shows

"Our stage act hasn't improved one bit since we started touring four years ago.  The days when three guitarists and a drummer can stand up and sing and do nothing else onstage are over.  Many of our tracks these days have big backings.  We couldn't produce the sound onstage without an orchestra.  We feel that people only really listen to us through our recordings, so that is our most important form of communication now."
