A Summer Afternoon
By Bubblebrain
A summer afternoon in a garden,
Laying on the grass.
Clouds forming in the sky,
Of the many things that passed.
Butterfly flutters near a flower,
Orange, white and brown.
Crickets make a lovely sound,
Bunnies hop along the ground.
Roses, marigolds, buttercups and daises,
Bumble bee flutters around like crazy.
Soil is moist and grass is green,
The most beautiful summer afternoon
I’ve ever seen.
Ocean
By Bubblebrain
I am diving into the ocean. The water is spreading across my face. The sea is blue and green, and colorful fish scatter all over.
As I swim deeper down, I see the beautiful coral reef. The sunlight reflects off the surface and hits the coral, making it glitter in all different colors.
A shark comes, seeking for food. Fish swim and hide away. After a while, the shark gives up and goes away, for he cannot find anything to eat. Clown fish poke out of the sea anemone. Tiny fish slowly leave their hiding spots in holes of the coral. Everything is back to normal.
I swim through tiny bubbles, a gush of water bursting softly through my hair. The ocean makes me feel like a gentle fish, shimmering and twirling about. I love this feeling.
Beautiful voices ring across the sea. Swimming deeper down, mermaids are sitting on ocean bed rocks, combing their colorful, streamy long hair that floats around their youthful faces. Their shiny tails flick against the sparkling rocks when they laugh, forming bubbles big and small.
I go to the sea floor and collect pretty shells. Unlike the broken ones I find on the beach shore, these are fully formed and unique. Then I let myself float to the surface. I put the shells safely in pocket.
I climb onto the sand and stand up, looking one last time at the ocean.
It is time to go home.
The Sorrow on the Beach
By Bubblebrain
The beach is silent,
no one’s there.
Everyone is gone,
and I am so scared.
Mermaid skeletons
washed up on shore,
The beach has no footprints,
seagulls sing no more.
To be with all the rest,
I must face my final test.
I lay upon the sandy beach,
and raise my arms to God’s own reach.
I shall sleep among the sand,
to die and fade,
for world’s own end.
The Stream
Soft petals fall upon the stream,
And float away in a hypnotic dream,
And at the rushing water’s rim,
A willow that on the grass casts light dim,
The stream flows forever more,
Until at last it reaches the glittering shore,
Around it springs the grass,
And so flows the liquid mass,
Under the soft noontide sun,
The water doth frolic and run,
And so gently dappled in light,
The water flows on into the gathering night,
‘Til the end of time the water flows,
As around it the forest with dawn light glows.

The Moth
Wings, flutter
Tissue upon
The pane
Still, ragged
Drawn to light
Like a moth
You said
Patient, waiting
Moving, sideways
Up the glass
Smooth, clear
Others, draw close
The small challenge
The great, touching
Rippling movements
The effect grand
Veins outline
The smooth bisque
Color wavering
Off the pane
The Late Garden
Flowers torn
Pulled up
Out of ground
Beyond soil
Roots dangling
Web like
Holding secrets
Life and dirt
Leaves scattered
Brown, yellow
First fallen
Gathering bunches
Piles of green
Drooping, limp
Lifeless, dry
Boxes hold
Secrets, beauty
Other uses
Discarded autumn
Shoveled underground.
Bursting Color
Spires of red
Salvia just
Next anemones
Rushes gold
Fast delphinium
With phlox
Fretting lavender
French or Dutch?
Snapdragons, red
Fuchsia, yellow
Vibrant borders
Next door
Edging leaves
Pouring lengths
Across stone
Stepped upon
Curling clematis
Winding through
Unknown hydrangea
Stems steep
Mounting high
Upon walls
Over stones
Grasping, holding
Brick, mortar
Pulling far
Above windows
Looked through
By children
Wishing for
Warmth, sun
Days outside
Gone, now
Last breath
Of summer
Expired.
The Telephone
Grey, ringing
Numbers ordered
In disorder
Confused, crossed
Written many
Times, over
Entered, pressed
Inside, recorded
Dialed, heard
Messages, lost
Kept away
From me
What voice
Carries you
To such
Extremes, emotions
The sound
The ring
Gone from
My ears
Only words
Far away
Long before
You knew
